What is the difference?
Both procedures involve inserting the pigment into the epidermis (top layer) of your skin, but the technique used is different, as well as the result.
Microblading creates individual strokes that mimic the eyebrow hairs, while powder brows create teeny tiny dots to give the illusion of a soft, powdery brow (much like freshly tinted eyebrows).
Powder brows has an advantage in that it lasts a bit longer - typically around 18 months on average (that's without the recommended annual top ups).
The decision between microblading vs powder brows is ultimately the clients, It comes down to which look you prefer. Both can look very subtle and natural, but it's near on impossible to make microblading more dramatic looking without it looking like a zebra crossing (not a good look!).
The advantages to powder brows:
Results that last longer.
It works with all skin types, including oily skin which can be problematic for microblading.
Top ups are less often
Your artist can make the eyebrow looks much more defined and dramatic, which is not possible with microblading
Lastly, powder brows hurts less than microblading
Less scabs (however it depends on skin type)
The advantages to microblading:
Looks very natural
Procedure time is around 30 minutes quicker vs. powder brows
Can be slightly cheaper depending on where you have it done
What do we at STORM prefer?
We love microbladed eyebrows but we definitely prefer powder brows! Purely for the reason that it lasts longer!
